Larry Sultan - photography at home
For Larry Sultan this work strengthened his bond with his family due to he wanted to recreate what had happened in the past and improve the memories that he had with his parents as his father was quite work focused as well disapproving that Larry Sultan became an artist. As for in the videos of his childhood he had different memories of what happened compared to what was show as although he appeared to be happy mentioned that he was not when reviewing the video saying that they were staged as well as documentary of only the positive features but with the video he realised that he could reshape his past and make it appear like "a good dream" when reviewing it in the future so that although his family members had quite a complicated relationship during the times that the family videos were made which is threshold concept number 10 where it is described as warping the sense of time but also remind people of things that were lost such as when Larry Sultan believed that the family video was augmented. When Larry Sultan started the pictures at home project he believed that all of it was an performance in a way as when alerting either of his parents they would face towards him and dismantled his role as the photographer but when he would not alert his parents he believed that he was betraying them as if he was keeping a secret from them as well as wanting to keep it private from the public as it was images of his personal life.

I believe that threshold number five is also part of Larry sultans work as the photos that he is making is a way to abstract the family video by recreating some of things that occurred as well as making new memories along the way so that when Larry Sultan reviews these images he looks back at them in a positive manner such as looking back at the images that have been recreated and remembering how his and his fathers relationship improved.

Within the photo Larry Sultan has used his father in his project “photography at home” where he has used landscape photography to create past memories again to involve himself again so that he feels that his father was more present in his childhood is his opinion. The most important part of the work is his father’s involvement so that the work has an impact on his life.

Still life photography
these images are designed to use an simple technique but also use the shadow of the work to capture things that are not seen within the images
Photos at home
The thirty photos were difficult to take due to the images being taken to only at home, which I enjoyed the difficulty as although my work started off poor, there were moments where there was drastic improvement which I am over joyed about as in my opinion it shows how much I am able to adapt to different to different styles of photography. But although there are positives to the improvements to the work there are also negatives as in numerous photos the shadows of the work are not up to standard in my opinion as I think that I could improve it if I had taken the images at a larger range of times as that would have a drastic affect on my work
Evaluation of a image from "pictures from home"
The first observation of the image that it appears that there is a lady communicating with her husband whilst her husband is trying to start the car, but he is not going to leave, the reason for this observation is that the car door is still open. The choice of having the focus on the woman, possibly the mother of Larry Sultan, is due to also have the open car door in focus which supplies the impression that the woman is about to also get into the car. There is the technique of thirds here as within the image only the centre of the image is in focus whilst leaving the rest of the image out of focus. The photo is a sort of documentary photo due to the image capturing a discussion between two people although there is no context supplied for the reason for the discussion. This image appears to be taken within this couples garage due to the shelves of what appears to be tools and possibly paint cans in the background which lead me to the assumption that its in the garage but theres also a bright light which I am assuming is associated with the garage door being open to let natural light into the garage so I am going to guess that the image was most likely taken between the hours of 10am and 3pm due to the amount of light thats being let in. I believe that the purpose of this image is that there was an image that Larry Sultan wanted to replicate that was taken in his childhood which was the original purpose of the pictures from home project as it meant that he was able to replace his childhood memories with memories that he will feel more involved in so that he can look back upon the images in a positive manner but due to it being an replication of an original idea it means that the images are artificial since the images are there to replace a previous set. By doing this it has achieved the original purpose of replacing the ideas of what the memories in the slide shows where Larry sultan knew that they were not trustworthy and replacing it with images that Larry Sultan knew were trustworthy images. Within the photo the natural essence is that the photo was made to to capture that isolated memory and then there is also an idea that it has been staged due to the work being made to replace and previous memory.
Images that remind me of home
Delphine Carmona
Delphine Carmona image evaluation
The first impression that this image supplies is quite simplistic but the more that I observe the image the more I believe that the work is incredibly smart due to the formatting of the work as the glass with the plant in is works perfectly due to the shadow caused by this, and in addition the natural light being let in is divided so it appears to be three large panes of glass whilst in reality there is only two but due to the appearance of the room as well as the placement of the item is something that I find aesthetically pleasing in a way since the plant and the glass vase shadows are separated by a division between pieces of glass and due to photo being taken at golden hour it works especially well for this piece of work due to the colour of the flowers which makes the work especially appealing to the human eye.

Work inspired by Delphine Carmona
Friends at Home
For this work I was hoping to capture times during conversation between my friends where they are just enjoying the moment which is quite important in this type of work which was especially hard as I was quite ill when taking these photos so although I saw my friends I wasn't able to be inside as everyone didn't want to get ill and the inspiration for this was the memories that I have of having my friends round and just enjoying talking about utter nonsense but just enjoying the moment in time . I was quite inspired by Larry sultan as he captured pieces of time where his family was just talking and although it was simple the connotations behind it have a deeper meaning than it originally shows. I mainly enjoy taking portraits due the simplicity to the first impression but the persons face can tell the viewer more about what is happening compared to an actual scenario in my opinion. My favourite image is the selfie image as the context around it is quite simple but the image it self has a different value for everyone that sees it as for me I will see my friends messing around trying to spread joy to those who didn't come to meet up whilst others may view it as people who are just messing around and acting stupid in simplistic terms which intrigues me as for each of us who view the images will result on a different idea on the image. The ideas I gathered from doing this work is that I would like to take images of my friends either at their house or at mine as in different scenarios different tings will occur which intrigues me as the difference between each of my friends lives is something noticeable so the images will hopefully capture the differences between everyone and showing how the friend group has formed in a way that doesn't matter about background but the actual person.
For the contact sheet I used the images of friends at home but I then realised that some images for my photoshoot would work quite well
Through the mirrors and windows
This work is mainly the reflection of the outside whilst reviewing the inside of the house or it is showing either a person or my pets. For this work it was difficult due to the work requiring the use of reflective materials or a window which limits the amount of places that I am using but I still enjoyed this project as I believe that although its challenging it also helps me improve as an artist
Olivia Arthur
The work above is created by Olivia Arthur when she was pregnant with her second child and by creating these images where I have noticed that the images all have focused upon her family life from when she was six months pregnant until her child was born which is documented in the images above. The images mainly contain her children within the frames of the work except from the one where a hair net is shown in frame from her husband throwing it up into the air. The images also commonly uses light and shadows to consistently segment what is needed within the images as the focus on the images with the focus more than often being drawn to the people within the images, as for the one of her in the bed with the light focusing on her face where it displays how she is feeling before she is in her operation. The images at a first glance has a simplicity where the images show ow her family is interpreting her pregnancy as well as her showing the progression of her pregnancy but the more depth that you look at the images in the more you see how the images are used to create

Shadows and silhouettes
This project is inspired by Oliva Arthur since the use of shadows was quite important in her work so for me it felt like I should attempt to do work up to the same standard although in reality it is much harder to do than it originally appears to be which when attempted there was initially the realisation of how well the work done by Olivia Arthur is made to look so effortless. The format of the images constantly changes due to the the people or objects in the images due to the ranges of light as well as the ranges of sizes of the subject
The best selection of images in shadows and silhouettes
The reasons why the images above have been selected is due to the images are something that I believe was taken to the best of my ability whilst using influence from Olivia Arthur's work which is mainly consumed by the use of shadows and the silhouettes of people which although difficult the images that were created I think were some of the best to take as it involves natural scenarios which occurred when I was outside and messing around with my friends which in my opinion makes this work some of the best that I have created especially since the shadows on the top half has occurred with natural lighting whilst the second row of images were taken using artificial light
The best image in my opinion
The reasoning that this image is my best image is due to the placement of my friends' shadows as they are split by first the borders of the images and then they are split by the the pavement and the ground which somehow made it appear in my mind that the left arm of the person at the top of the image belonged to the person who was at the bottom of the image which I really like especially since the people within the image are quite similar in personality whilst the images show that in my opinion as it results in the my friends being able to act however they want whilst also being hidden in a way. The work also works in a way so that the image shows two different places in a way due to the pavement and then the grass makes it looks like the places are far apart since the pavement is quite simple and shows the tame side of my friends whilst the grass shows a sense of freedom for my friends.
Drafts for Exhibitions
How I found help with sequencing
The reasoning for this choice of book is due to the sequencing of these images which gives me ideas about how I should organise my images for the exhibition, mainly due to how there is a poem of some-sort that is created to match what the image is about or there is an image that matches the image in numerous ways beginning with the ways that the shadows affecting the images in a similar manner which allows for the images to flow together in a way from my perspective which enables for the image to appear more attention seeking in the way that it draws the attention of the viewer. With the images being street photography it is quite interesting about how empty the streets are as the usually have a large amount of life in those areas. This has helped me with my sequencing ideas due to the image placements in the books which enables my thoughts about how I will be able to organise my exhibition specifically with what I will be able to do with the images.
Photo selection process
the starting 16 photos for my exhibition
The reasoning for this original selection of images is due to it being the work that was made with the best of my abilities resulting in the creation of the project being something that I am able to reflect on and see the work I have done and be happy with it.
Reduction to 12 images
The reasoning for the reduction of images is due to images being more suited for a certain area which makes it so the work will appear neater as well as the work being more suited to the place of the exhibit
Final 8 images to use
The work being more suited to the place of the exhibit is the reasoning for the reduction of images

Feedback
The things that I can improve is the use of spacing, the lighting of the image which I can improve by taking photos through the other side of the image. Also I can improve the exhibit by making the images different sizes inducing the work being much more improve. I am going to re-create the work by taking the feedback and then using it so that the exhibition is better than uploading it to the website to see the improvements.
